A few months ago I had the privilege of photographing the Hope Lodge Reunion in Decatur. My Aunt Rebecca volunteers her time each week alongside many others and that is how I learned about it. I thought it was such a great place that I had to share it with you. The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge is a home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers while they are undergoing treatment. You can check out this link to find out more about the Atlanta Hope Lodge. On this particular day many former patients came back to see old friends and have a wonderful catered lunch. I met so many interesting people at the Reunion. Everyone there was so upbeat and positive. Upon meeting married couples I typically did not know which one had been a patient. It was fun to meet so many diverse people and hear their different stories. Cancer does not discriminate and unfortunately touches all of our lives in some way.
I loved the couple on the left. I said the lady was like Beyonce with her hair blowing in the wind and her husband thought that was pretty funny. Johnny (in the middle) put it so well when he said that he could have stayed home for his treatment and would have been just fine. He added that it was so much better to stay at the Hope Lodge where he could be with other people that were going through the same thing he was. He thought the new friends he made, staff and volunteers really uplifted and supported him during a tough time.
