It is always like stepping back in time for me when I watch baby boy clients grow into active toddlers and all of a sudden they become the BIG brother. I can almost picture what is in store for this family with two little boys just a couple of years apart. I never have high expectations of the toddler and newborn sibling picture that I take. You just never know what might happen and I feel like whatever that moment holds is wonderful and will be cherished more and more. One day big brother will be 12 like mine and you will laugh at how you thought he was so huge at 2 to 3 years old. These two boys just happened to be a dream. Little brother was determined not to go to sleep for me and I’m so happy we now have wide-eyed portraits of him. Have you ever seen a newborn sit up and pose for the family photo? Little brother did eventually go to sleep so we could get the popular curled up poses. The longer I am in this business, the more I appreciate lifestyle photography and capturing the whole family together. The relationships and moments are what we really want to remember and what I strive to capture in a beautiful way.
Newborn Photography Tip: When taking a picture of your young child and newborn, always have another spotter present. Even though this big brother was a sweetheart and so agreeable, Mom and Dad were on each side ready to protect their newborn if anything went wrong. No picture is worth putting a little one in harm’s way. Don’t take any chances or mimic a lot of the newborn poses you see online (which are actually composites created in Photoshop and not even possible in real life). You can take a look at my last post to catch a glimpse of his airplane birth announcements.
