state fair picture ferrisI recently had a very fun photo shoot with Wednesday’s Child at the Georgia State Fair held at Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta.  Wednesday’s Child is a program that spotlights Foster Care children in need of a loving home every Wednesday on a local news program.  WAGA Fox 5 Atlanta and I followed Trinity around the Fair and captured all the fun she had.  The best part of this segment that will be airing today is that it was a success story.  Trinity now has a forever family and we were able to highlight her Mom, Carmen, as well. Watch Fox 5 Atlanta today at 6PM for the full story.

The organizers of the Georgia State Fair and everyone we met bent over backwards to make sure Trinity had a very special day.  They were truly awesome!  Check out and share the Wednesday’s Child program and website.  There are many children who are not success stories yet and are looking for a forever home.

Wednesday’s Child of Georgia is a media based child-specific recruitment program utilized to heighten awareness on adoption & to improve the lives of children in foster care by helping them find permanent, loving and safe adoptive homes.

Info from Wednesday’s Child Website: “Wednesday’s Child (WC)– Georgia is a partnership of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, WAGA Fox 5 TV – Atlanta, and the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services Permanency Unit.  An award winning program with a proven track record of success is part of the Dave Thomas Foundation’s national campaign to increase the number of adoptions of children in foster care. The program started in Washington D.C. in 1992 and has expanded to five additional major cities including Atlanta. Each Wednesday, a child who is waiting to be adopted is profiled on the local evening news. During the Wednesday’s Child segment, viewers learn about a particular child’s hopes, dreams and needs. Wednesday’s Child puts a face on foster care and adoption that is hard to ignore and makes the children’s plight real. Through this program, many children have found loving, permanent homes. The youth featured on Wednesday’s Child are those in the most urgent need of a family. Many of these children are over the age of eight and have been in the foster care system for some time and desperately need a permanent place to call home.”

senior girl sitting sunHailee is a Senior at Pope High School this year and she had an awesome Senior Session with me recently.  The light was gorgeous when we met and I love the sun flare we achieved in many of her Senior Pictures. seniior with dogs outsideI love that we were able to get some wonderful shots with her two dogs.  They were good models (and terribly cute)! senior girl with dogsWe incorporated things that were important to her at this time in her life.  We had fun finding creative ways to capture her flag and I love the colors it added. I bet you can’t tell that there were about a million people around us when we took these pictures! jewish flag youthWe took pictures near the water in a raincoat and bright purple boots.  We didn’t mean to get IN the water, but accidents happen…  Hailee is a good sport and so fun so we went with it and I’m so glad we got pictures of her splashing in the water.  Senior Session Wet WaterAnd lastly, my favorite – black and white.  I love how taking the color out really draws you in to her eyes and expression.  Timeless. senior girl black white portraitHere’s to the a fantastic Senior year of High School and a very bright future!

newborn brother siblings black whiteIt is always like stepping back in time for me when I watch baby boy clients grow into active toddlers and all of a sudden they become the BIG brother.  I can almost picture what is in store for this family with two little boys just a couple of years apart.  I never have high expectations of the toddler and newborn sibling picture that I take.  You just never know what might happen and I feel like whatever that moment holds is wonderful and will be cherished more and more.  One day big brother will be 12 like mine and you will laugh at how you thought he was so huge at 2 to 3 years old.  These two boys just happened to be a dream.  Little brother was determined not to go to sleep for me and I’m so happy we now have wide-eyed portraits of him.  Have you ever seen a newborn sit up and pose for the family photo? family newborn posed mariettaLittle brother did eventually go to sleep so we could get the popular curled up poses.  The longer I am in this business, the more I appreciate lifestyle photography and capturing the whole family together.  The relationships and moments are what we really want to remember and what I strive to capture in a beautiful way.

Newborn Photography Tip: When taking a picture of your young child and newborn, always have another spotter present.  Even though this big brother was a sweetheart and so agreeable, Mom and Dad were on each side ready to protect their newborn if anything went wrong.  No picture is worth putting a little one in harm’s way. Don’t take any chances or mimic a lot of the newborn poses you see online (which are actually composites created in Photoshop and not even possible in real life). newborn awake black whiteYou can take a look at my last post to catch a glimpse of his airplane birth announcements.
