summer pictures child photographer atlanta car wash

There were few breaks in the rain last week.  So when it did stop, of course, we washed the car.  My kids didn’t mind being in water the whole 4th of July holiday weekend.  They also spent a day at Six Flags in the rain (the best time to go).  Both of our cars got washed by my junior crew and I think a neighbor’s car did too.  It wouldn’t be car washing without a big brother squirting you with a hose, right?

Yard work and washed cars brought some fun treats so it was well worth it. Lemonades, Root Beers, watermelon and cherries were waiting for my soaking wet crew of three. And then it rained.  Again.

If I ever wanted to do a “What Not To Wear” post this picture would be attached. Life is full of spontaneous moments and I have children that have too much of their own sense of style. My boys dress mainly for comfort and I guess I can’t blame them for that!

I hope your 4th weekend was as fun of ours!

A quick session share of Jakester. He is 5 now and quite the smart little man.  You can see the wheels turning in his head and I just love his personality.  I also love his little boy smile.  I wonder if he will be missing any teeth this time next year? His Mom is so good about using his birthday as a the milestone to get a portrait made of him.  Birthdays are the perfect way to remember to do that. 4-5 years old is a great age to have a professional photograph of your child.  They start losing teeth and their looks really change the closer they get to first grade.

I think he looks great in both red and blue.  What red, white and blue will you be wearing tomorrow? Picture of 5 years old Atlanta

Take advantage of any 4th of July sales next week and stock up on red clothing.  A lot of them will look great in the Fall when you are thinking about Christmas card pictures. Little boys in red or navy blue polo shirts always look great.

Happy Independence day!

Red, White and Blue Clothing

The Fourth of July is one of those holidays that usually means family-time. It might just be a good opportunity to take some pictures of your family while you are all together and having fun.  Here are some red, white and blue clothing ideas so your family can show their patriotic spirit.  White with different shades of blue is a great base to start with so that you can add in smaller amounts of red.  Note how great the stripes look and it wouldn’t hurt to have lots of American Flags in little hands! It is the 4th so you can go a little crazier than usual with the color. 🙂

I hope you have a wonderful Fourth of July holiday and a week that moves at a slower pace that usual. Enjoy the family-time that you have. Oh, and enjoy the hot dogs too!  Take lots of pictures even if no one ever gets out of their bathing suit!

Gymboree and J. Crew have red, white and blue clothing options for children ever year.  A great place to start for patriotic holidays.

I have to laugh when I think about the conversation with the Mom of these kiddos when we were planning our location.  “You have three.  You know how they will be, right?”  Do I ever!  I’ve got 2 boys and girl also with just about the exact same age differences.  I assured her they would poke and annoy each other no matter where we were and there wasn’t much that could change that!  These kids were actually terrific and I don’t remember any pokes, kicks or bunny ears…but I am immune to it anyhow so I could be wrong.

I’ve watched these three grow up and I can’t believe how big and gorgeous they are.  All three are going to be heart-breakers very soon.

Photographer’s Tip:  What to Wear – The Mom of these children picked out clothing that reflects her more traditional style but still works well in a more urban setting.  You would think that she had seen my last post: What to Wear for Summer.   Dress up your girls to make them look great and coordinate the boys – you can never go wrong with Jeans or Polo Shirts.

Marietta Family

I wanted to share a sample of what your family might wear for a photography session.  These particular outfits may not be your style, but you can take cues from the overall color theme.  The different layers of denim and blues are a great base and always timeless.  Throw in a few pops of a brighter color like the red above.  I must be partial to these colors as I did something similar for my own family a couple of years ago when my friend, Crystal, took our pictures.

We were all in Jeans (because that is what we live in and so US).  I had denim with different shades of browns and a few pops of red.  The green of summer is a nice backdrop and the red lets it still work well for Christmas Cards. This is a great way to go ahead and get your Christmas Card pictures taken care of as early as August and September.

Speaking of Christmas… I am debating on which day to cut off my Christmas deadline for Sessions.  I know it will be the first week of November.  So, if you would like to get a family session in this year now is the time to schedule it.  I have a set number of sessions I can take for children and families including High School Seniors.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!  We seem to have plenty of warm weather in Atlanta.  I have enjoyed a few cooler mornings over the past week — A LOT.

american baby atlanta american baby atlantaIt was a gray morning in Smyrna when we met to commemorate this little beauty’s first birthday with her own portrait session.  We still had a great time despite the weather  and I loved getting to know her Mom and Dad.  I found out we had a lot in common.  This Dad moved to America when he was 3 years old and my husband moved here when he was four years old.  They were both born in Manchester, England.  (So, as much as I call Andy a Yankee because he grew up in Chicago he says he is more of a Redcoat!).  I have to share the T-shirt all three of my children have been wearing through the years.  We need to find this little girl the same thing.  We didn’t have the shoes, though.  They are awesome!
