How did it go?  If you saw my previous post, you know I don’t make a huge effort to get a group shot of my own kids except on my birthday at the end of July.  If you have three kids of your own, you know how difficult it can be just to have them sit together without a squabble.  July is a sweaty month to be outside but I work quick so it doesn’t take long.  🙂  This is my annual gift to myself and it doesn’t hurt to tell my boys that this is for Mommy’s birthday and please don’t poke or kick each other.  We usually make an effort to go to a nice location but since my helper/wrangler/husband was stuck on an airplane and not home yet, we only made it outside to our yard.  Good enough for me!  So with a little help from Grammy and my Aunt this is what we got on our way out to dinner that night and I am happy.  I won’t tell you what tricks I used to get them to smile…I’m a big fan of the candid moments.  Those represent my kids the best and I might just hang something more candid on one of my walls to enjoy.

Back to School: Most are going back today.  Mine are officially back at it and I am really happy (except for early mornings and homework).  I can’t wait to see all the back to school pictures on Facebook this week.  I might not see some children for a year and then a flood of back to school images come through and I love it.  We had a half day on Friday and I took these pictures of my kids in front of the house…where I always take their back to school pictures.  I told them I would have to do that then and then on Monday morning in their real uniforms and again on Wednesday for Chapel uniforms and then when Kate officially starts back.  They weren’t thrilled.  Evan said he wasn’t really “into photography”.  It’s not his thing so he tells me.  It just happens to be “my thing” so I’m glad they indulge me!

Guess which one did NOT get new uniform shoes for school this year?  |  Belle made an appearance in our photos.  I don’t know why.

Photographer’s Tip:  Use a chalkboard or a piece of paper and let your kids hold up a sign that has “first day of 1st grade” or something along those lines.  I am going to use one of my Organic Bloom frames with a chalkboard insert to do that.  I have a few more shots to get!  My biggest tip of all: if you forget to do anything the first day do it anytime the first week.  When you look back in a few years you probably won’t even remember that part.  If your child rides the bus, please get one with the bus behind them.  (Just for me – I love that!)

Every year on my birthday it is a reminder that I want some “real” pictures of my kids.  A little mini-session for me.  Not that I don’t love my iphone pictures of them – I have lots of those and treasure them.  It is a great way to capture the craziness of a birthday lunch at Moe’s with our friends.  I don’t think it is what I am looking to blow up and frame on my wall, though.  Wish me luck;  I’m taking my own kids out today and fingers crossed I will get an image of all three looking pleasant with no bunny ears.  I often feel like I am with the Three Stooges because of all the head butts and eye-pokes when I make them sit close together.  Because they are the Cobbler’s Kids (have no shoes), the images may not make it to the wall right away but at least I will have them!

The above picture of my sweet Kate was taken last night in Smyrna, Georgia.  We will try to get a brush through her hair next time!

Happy Birthday to me…and any new client of mine!  The first two new clients to book by the end of this Saturday for an August/September session can mention they saw this and get a free 5×7 frame at their ordering session.  You can send me a message through the contact form on this site or email me directly.  I’m trying to get a jump on the busyness of Fall by fitting in a couple of more sessions into my schedule.

A New Addition to the family.

Meet Roxie!

She has lots of love and kisses to give!

These girls are so beautiful on their own.  Put them together, add in a cute new puppy and it is to die for!  Worst of all is I think I have puppy-fever now.  Little Roxie was so easy to work with (thanks to Mom’s help) and couldn’t have been sweeter.  We laughed a lot just like I’m sure they do all the time at home with her.  I’m so thrilled we got to include her in our session so we can look back one day to see how much the girls have grown and also how much Roxie has changed as well.  It is like having a newborn and wanting to capture those first precious weeks.  🙂

This is where you will find us this week…lazier than usual.  Last week was a different story when my family was vacationing hard in Florida.  When I say we vacation hard I mean we don’t do things in an easy or leisurely way.  You probably don’t want to ask me for Disney Vacation tips.  We hit several parks – open them up, shut them down and go full force all day long until Midnight.  It is exhausting and I always need a real vacation when we are back home.  This year we hit a milestone by having all potty trained children, no naps and no stroller.  My 4 year old got no slack and was a real trooper.  She rode everything she was tall enough for and loved it.  She rode Tower of Terror twice and had the courage to approach two(!) princesses.  To make it through each day, I only had one small backpack to carry our $40 of no-rain insurance (=Disney ponchos or “nachos” as Kate called them).  My children only broke down once when they had to endure a Foreigner rock concert at Sea World with their old parents.

I never take my big cameras on vacation and oh, how I love my iPhone for snapshots of our trip.  The above pictures were taken using Instagram which is probably my most favorite form of social media.  Why?  Because I don’t always have a lot to say but always have a picture to share!

Is it really Fall now?  It snuck up on me somehow.  All the Maple trees in my neighborhood are already turning red which I love.  I also love this cool weather we are having but I will miss this green grass.  Thankfully the leaves are coming.  🙂

I love the smirk on this little girl’s face.  It makes me smile.  She did a great job of giving me a story to tell when we played in Marietta one morning.  Her Mom will soon be getting a gorgeous custom album to hold on to these memories forever.  My own little Kate isn’t much older than this and I know I just want to bottle her up and keep it forever.  I’m glad we got these great images of this cutie to always remember her Summer…especially now that is over!

Happy Fall, Y’all.

It is all about the purple popsicle. And, Tinkerbell.   That is what having a girl has taught me.

I hope you are enjoying your summer!  I have so much to show and tell but too short on time.  So, for now, I’ll just share a pic of two friends enjoying their summer.  My favorite moment of their time together was when Kate’s friend ran in to tell me a bug was on Kate’s leg.  Kate eventually hobbled to me so that I could swat away the attached mosquito that was still attached to her leg.  Neither one of them would do it and were freaking out.  They were so funny.  My boys never would have been bit in the first place and if they had would not have noticed.

3 year olds can be so entertaining.  🙂
